Week-18 Assignment

Project Development

Objective ::

Internet of Things (IoT) plays a pivotal part in our mundane daily life by controlling electronic devices using internet networks. The controlling is done by minutely observing the important parameters which generate vital pieces of information concerning the functioning of electronic devices. The Home Automation is achieving a great popularity day by day, because of large advantages as they increase the comfort and quality of life. Most smart home systems are controlled by smartphones and microcontrollers. The reason for this surge demand of network enabled home automation is reaching the zenith in recent days for its simplicity and comparable affordability.

Simultaneously, this information will transmit these vital statistics from the transmitting device as well as save the same on the cloud to access by the applications and supplementary procedures to use them. This associates the outcomes of the environmental observances like the humidity and temperature measurements using sensors. In this project I used IOT based home automation system which goal is to develop a home automation system that gives the user complete control over all remotely controllable aspects of the home. The automation system will have ability to be controlled from a central host PC, the internet, and also remotely accessed via a windows mobile based application.

My project results show the live temperature and humidity of the surroundings and using ESP8266 Wi-Fi with DHT11 through the Blynk App. The sensors are used for measuring the temperatures from the surroundings, storing displayed information with different devices. Here, the ESP8266 Wi-Fi module has been used for data storing purpose.

Abstract ::

In today's world, Internet of Things (IoT) is a different development. With the help of IoT, all the physical objects can be connect to the internet. And with this I considered the two layers of the system viz: the sensor device which gathers data and links to cloud and next is the cloud service which hosts the information from the environment. In the storage rooms of industries we need a good environment for the products to be healthy for use. Here I developed a monitoring system with the help of IoT and Mobile App. The Internet of Things entrance is used as a part of this system. In this strategy we can use several access methods such as Wi-Fi, GPRS, Ethernet etc. and also the data collected can be stored. In this IOT gateway we use NodeMCU (ESP 8266) as the Microcontroller unit and PC/Mobile App as the implanted OS. The application authenticates that the entrance is reliable. In this I tried to develop an arrangement encompassing NodeMCU wireless sensor networks and cloud and then extend our work to develop a method for the transmission of data between them which can be of great use in monitoring the temperature and humidity. With the help of this monitoring system, the real time detection of the temperature and humidity of the rooms can be improved and the longevity of the products can be ensured.

Here is the work for project development which I have done so far:

In this week I have planned out my initial idea to build "Smart Home Automation Device using IoT"

Did it worked: Yes

I defined my project idea and was useful for me as well as can be implemented anywhere.

3D Designing

I also started printing of the case for fitting of the electronic gadgets so that it looks nice and compatible. Printing of enclose cover which was designed in Solidworks. Here is the final printed of the enclosure box after printing where all the required compnents have been mounted

For 3D designing for keeping the complonents.

Here is the Final 3D printed Enclosure Box

PCB designing : For designing of the PCB designing I took & referred my earlier assignments (Electronic Design)

Circuit Diagram ::

Then I selected the trace & cut file for printing through Mods- File Name – File select in Mods

Soldering of Components:

After successful milling of the board, I soldered the required components and tested whether working properly or not. But found the board is working perfectly

Project Methodology:

In this Home Automation System, I have planned to monitor the Temperature & Humidity of the room, Lighting Lamps of the room/house with the help of the Sensors and output with the Mobile App. This project explains how to upload the data using the NodeMCU, to show the temperature and humidity buy using DHT11 sensor on your Smartphone or tablet on Blynk App. The NodeMCU collects the temperature and humidity from DHT11 sensor and sends it to Blynk app every second. Similarily, I have connected 2 nos. of Lamps to switch ON & OFF and one relay connection to FAN. Whenver the room temprature goes beyod the specified value, the FAN automatically switched ON.

Home Automation Sensors

There are probably thousands of such sensors are available and out these I have selected Temperature sensors & Humidity sensors (DHT11) for my project for smart home technology.In my project I have added 3 nos. of 5V relays for various Home Appliances like 2 nos. of Lights, 1 nos. of Fan & 1no. of relay for power connection.

Before going for final testing I have assembled all the hardwares like NodeMCU ESP8266, DHT 11 & Relay with a breadboard and tested propoerly and which works fine.

Before going to print the PCB, I have tested all the components by putting into the Breadboard with the help of Blynk App. I have installed the Blynk App from the Play Store and configured with the code received from the mail account and connected with laptop for testing.
